This Valentines Day we created a experimental project that we titled Double Cake Surprises! The idea was based more or less on Kid Robot’s designer toys where you get a surprise limited edition design inside a 6” squared sealed box (only this time made of cake). Basically what we did is asked 4 designers to each create a cake design based on their idea of love. The design had to be simple enough to be reproduced since we were going to do 10 cakes from each design (a grand total of 50 limited edition cakes). After some fine tuning on what could and could not be done on cake the final designs were very creative and cool looking. We then let people pre-order them through an online store and after a couple of weeks were sold out. We then set out on creating 50 cakes in just 3 days, which was a lot of work for just two people. Thankfully we had the help of friends and family who made this whole thing possible and in the end everyone was very happy and excited upon receiving their Surprises. We hope to create more series of these Double Cake Surprises soon!

Sushi Cake! This was a cake for two persons so we were able to create them real size and even included the chopsticks (courtesy of a local sushi joint) so you could eat them like you would eat a real life sushi. This was our first 2012 cake.

Rooster Cake! When we were asked to create this gravity defying cake we quickly said YES! and then later went “what did we get ourselves into?” This cake required long hours and crafty engineering but in the end it was all worth it. It’s one of our favorite cakes.

Mickey Mouse Cake! This was our take on the widely popular simplified Mickey Mouse Cake. It was created for a 3 year old’s birthday. This cake stayed with us at a hotel room one day before the delivery. It was very well behaved.

Turkey Cake! This was our 2011’s Thanksgiving Cake. When we first started creating cakes one of our family members, who’s birthday happens to be on thanksgiving day, told us she wanted us to create a roasted turkey cake for her birthday. Little did she know we would actually do it.
It did kinda come out looking like a real roasted turkey but trust us. It’s cake.

This is the Super Gumball Machine Rainbow Cake….named like this because its a rainbow cake (sorry we have no picture of the cut cake to prove it), it was created to resemble a gumball machine, and its super huge. It was 20 layers of colored vanilla cake, marshmallows for the oulines and real gumballs inside a clear glass fish tank. Everything from the crystal bowl down is made out of cake.
This cake was for a girl’s 15th birthday. In United States they celebrate the sweet 16 but for some reason in Puerto Rico they celebrate the “quinceañero” which is probably translated as sweet 15. Go figure.

Gift Cake! This was a birthday gift for a girl named Giohannis. Its a little bit more of a traditional cake than we are used to making but we thought it came out well.

Angry Birds Chocolate Cake! We personally love angry birds so when we got the call to create an angry birds cake we were super stoaked. Making sphere cakes is not an easy task and this was our first spherical cake.

Puppy Cake! It’s always weird when people ask us to do pet cakes considering they are going to eat them at some point. But for some odd reason we have the best time creating them. This cake was ordered as a birthday cake for someone who loves her dog….apparently enough to want to eat it.
